Sociólogos, periodistas, encuestadores o funcionarios públicos suelen intentar descifrar el humor, la opinión, o incluso las preferencias políticas del llamado sector agropecuario. Erráticos suelen ser sus resultados. Entiendo que esto sucede porque se parte de un error de concepto, ya que lo que comúnmente llamamos “agro”, dista mucho de ser un sector homogéneo y monolítico.
Si quisiéramos, por ejemplo, interpretar cual fue el “voto del campo” en una elección nacional nos equivocaríamos si simplemente analizamos un mapa con colores, ya que por un lado la mayoría de los productores y empleados rurales viven en ciudades y como el agro es mucho más que producción, las personas que trabajan en ocupaciones vinculadas son casi en su totalidad también población urbana.
Si hiciéramos el ejercicio de desagregar las opiniones electorales de los integrantes de una familia que directa o indirectamente vive contribuyendo a este sector, identificaríamos distintos intereses y aspiraciones. El jefe de hogar, seguramente tenga la tendencia de emitir su voto de manera empática con sus intereses. Su mujer, la ecónoma de la casa, influenciada por el contexto económico del momento, tal vez elija una opción distinta a la de su marido. Y los hijos, trabajadores, estudiantes o desocupados, quizá votarían de manera independiente a la de sus padres. Los jóvenes en particular suelen mostrar una especial disociación ideológica en relación con sus mayores. Sucede también que la población puramente citadina del interior productivo suele diferenciarse de quienes viven en zonas rurales.
El ser urbano tiende a identificarse con otros valores más progresistas y menos conservadores, por lo que no es raro imaginar su interés por distinguirse de aquellos que identifica como menos evolucionados. “Mi abuelo era de campo…”, me dijo desdeñosamente un día un joven nacido y criado en un pueblo de 20.000 habitantes de la provincia de Buenos aires, donde el primer lote agrícola no está a más de 2000 metros de su casa.
El desapego generacional es notable. prejuzgar que la población urbana del interior del país es empática con los avatares del campo es desconocer las demandas sociales de la población de esas localidades, y que por más que provenga de pueblos chicos, suele tener una mentalidad propia de un habitante de ciudad. Sus necesidades y demandas son similares a quienes viven en grandes urbes: demanda infraestructura y servicios urbanos, exige pavimento en sus calles, agua potable, cloacas, gas de red, internet de alta velocidad, exige que sus hijos no pierdan días de clase, etcétera.
En este análisis de interpretación sectorial además suele soslayarse muchas veces el derrotero de tantas otras regiones agro dependientes (NEA, NOA, Cuyo, Patagonia, etc.), focalizándose, no sin razón dado su peso específico, en la realidad pampeana, siendo esta una parte importante pero no excluyente de la realidad agroindustrial.
Desconozco la manera de encuestar la opinión de un conglomerado tan diverso y complejo como es el agro. No sabría cómo hacerlo. Tal vez sea por todo esto que me cuesta denominarlo “sector”. La clasificación estadística “sector primario”, es solo una denominación técnica económica de la cual desconozco su origen. Aunque sí creo que el “campo”, ni es sector, ni es primario (tema para otra discusión).
Me gusta no obstante pensarlo y entenderlo como una comunidad, como un conjunto, una red de personas heterogéneas, distribuidas de manera atomizada en la geografía entera de la nación, con una enorme cantidad de actividades, oficios y profesiones que le dan vida económica, social y espiritual, tanto al mal llamado interior, como a las ciudades y pueblos de toda la república. Acotar, encasillar, limitar, encajonar… son verbos de difícil conjugación cuando hablamos del sustantivo agrobioindustria.
