MOSCÚ.- Tras inaugurar en Moscú junto al presidente Vladimir Putin una estatua en homenaje a Fidel Castro, el líder cubano Miguel Díaz-Canel insistió en respaldar a Rusia en su enfrentamiento con Occidente diciendo que el Kremlin “debe mantenerse firme” al tiempo que criticó las sanciones y bloqueos occidentales.
Díaz-Canel recordó que realizaba esta visita a Moscú “en un momento en que tanto Rusia como Cuba están sometidas a unas sanciones que proceden y tienen su origen en el mismo enemigo”. Aludió así a la ola de sanciones que Estados Unidos, junto a otras potencias occidentales, impusieron a Rusia en represalia por la invasión a Ucrania iniciada el 24 de febrero pasado, así como al bloqueo contra su país por parte de Washington hace más de seis décadas. En este sentido exhortó a Rusia a “mantenerse firme”.
Por su parte Putin destacó que primero la Unión Soviética y después Rusia “siempre han apoyado y siguen apoyando al pueblo cubano en su lucha por la independencia, por la soberanía, opuesta a cualquier tipo de sanciones, embargos y bloqueos”. En Rusia, Cuba es identificada frecuentemente como “la isla de la libertad”
Díaz-Canel insistió en su respaldo a Rusia en su enfrentamiento con Occidente, diciendo que Moscú “debe mantenerse firme”.
Previamente, ambos mandatarios inauguraron un monumento al líder de la revolución cubana, Fidel Castro (1926-2016), en la plaza ubicada en el norte de la capital rusa que lleva precisamente el nombre del líder revolucionario. El monumento de bronce de tres metros de altura, representa a Fidel en uniforme militar con su tradicional boina, de pie sobre un bloque de piedra con el mapa de Cuba.
Según los reportes del servicio de prensa del Kremlin, reproducidos por la agencia de noticias Sputnik, el monumento representa “el camino heroico de un hombre que defendía los derechos de la gente en su país”.
Díaz-Canel llegó el sábado último a Moscú en visita oficial de trabajo. La comitiva del mandatario cubano incluye al canciller, Bruno Rodríguez; el ministro de Economía, Alejandro Gil, y el titular de Comercio Exterior e Inversión Extranjera, Rodrigo Malmierca, entre otros funcionarios.
La agenda del cubano incluye negociaciones que permitan impulsar el difícil sector energético de su país en medio de prolongados apagones y escasez de combustible.
