PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-hander Michael Soroka on the 10-day injured list Sunday because of right shoulder inflammation, further depleting their pitching staff as they try to stay in the National League playoff race.
It's the second time this season that Soroka has missed time with an injury. He was out for nearly two months because of a strained left glute.
The 29-year-old has pitched well when healthy, with an 8-4 record and a 3.40 ERA. He had one of his worst outings on Saturday night, giving up six earned runs over 3 1/3 innings in an 11-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
Soroka joins fellow starting pitchers Zac Gallen (elbow), Ryne Nelson (elbow) and Corbin Burnes (elbow) on the injured list. The D-backs hope all three pitchers will return at some point in the regular season.
