Borussia Mönchengladbach won for the first time this season while a resurgent Torino made it nine straight points out of nine in Serie A by beating Monza 3-2 on Friday.
In Ligue 1, Nice recorded a first away victory by 2-1 over Brest while in the Premier League Ipswich and Nottingham Forest drew 1-1.
Newly promoted Malaga was still looking for its first win since returning to La Liga after conceding a late goal to draw at Alaves 1-1.
Gladbach wins at last
Gladbach came into the Bundesliga game at Stuttgart with no points from six games and a club record goals against tally of minus 20, and it went behind after six minutes through Ermedin Demirović.
However, in one of the turnarounds of the Bundesliga so far, American Joe Scally’s fourth goal of the season brought Gladbach level seven minutes before halftime and Shuto Machino gave it the unlikeliest of leads six minutes into the second period.
Wael Mohya made sure of the points with a header midway through the second half. It was the 17-year-old’s second goal in two games.
Demirović pulled a goal back for the home side with seven minutes left but it was not enough.
Malaga robbed of first win
Malaga was the only side yet to record a win in La Liga but it took the lead in Alaves just before halftime thanks to its most consistent performer of the season so far.
Adrián Niño scored for the third game in a row but the visitor could not hold on as the home side's pressure eventually told.
Toni Martinez’s 89th minute header was tipped on to the bar and Aitor Manas was the quickest to follow up. He slammed the ball home to give Alaves the equalizer.
Alaves sat in seventh place, even as its winless run ticked up to six games.
Malaga remained on the bottom of the table.
Resurgent Torino wins a third in a row
A first goal of the season for Dutch midfielder Kian Fitz-Jim sent Torino on its way to a third win in a row for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
Former Ajax player Fitz-Jim struck near halftime only for Gustavo Varela to equalize two minutes into the second half after a mistake by Torino defender Pietro Comuzzo.
However, Rafik Belghali, the on-loan striker from Verona, got Torino back in front 14 minutes later with a fine strike from outside the box, and Nikola Vlasic guaranteed the points with a third.
Nathan Patterson scored an own goal for Monza in stoppage time but a resurgent Torino did enough to take all three points and move into eighth place. Monza was 14th.
Nice earns third win in four games
One point separated Brest and Nice before Friday’s game and only a missed penalty deep in stoppage time prevented them from sharing the spoils on a cool night in Britanny.
A mistake by Nice goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf gave Ludovic Ajorque a golden chance after 15 minutes and he made no mistake to put the home side ahead.
Elye Wahi equalized from a corner kick after an hour for Nice and the visitor won with a goal from Sofiane Diop in the ninth minute of injury time.
Diouf made up for his earlier howler by saving a penalty from Kenny Lala with the last kick of the game.
Nice has won three of its last four games by the same 2-1 scoreline. It jumped ahead of Brest into eighth place. Brest fell one place into 11th.
Ipswich and Forest draw
Newly promoted Ipswich started the season encouragingly but it was a goal down after 13 minutes at home to Nottingham Forest.
Daniel Munoz’s looping cross from the left was converted by an unmarked Neco Williams.
A mistake by Nikola Milenkovic allowed Julio Enciso to level the scores just before halftime. Although Forest had the better of the second period it could not convert its chances.
The visitor was angry at a video decision not to send off Issa Diop after he brought down Forest’s James McAtee as he bore down on goal.
Forest moved out of the drop zone and into 16th place; Ipswich climbed one place into ninth.
