Después del resonante triunfo ante Turquía, que valió mucho más que lo que habitualmente vale una victoria, la selección argentina de vóleibol afrontará el penúltimo compromiso del tercer weekend de la Volleyball Nations League (VNL) que se juega en Eslovenia, con el aliciente de saber que ya está dentro de los Juegos Olímpicos de París 2024 (inician el próximo 26 de julio). La albiceleste asumirá este sábado desde las 8 (horario argentino) su compromiso ante Polonia, el mejor seleccionado del mundo, en un encuentro que se puede ver en vivo por televisión a través de ESPN 2 y en streaming por Star+.
Este viernes, el equipo conducido por Marcelo Méndez, se impuso por 3 a 0 con parciales de 25-17, 25-18 y 25-20 para seguir creciendo en el torneo, pero fundamentalmente para dar con el primer gran objetivo del año: la clasificación a los Juegos Olímpicos. Es que, si bien la VNL no otorga plazas para la máxima cita multidisciplinaria del año, sí modifica el ranking mundial permanentemente, con cada encuentro. Y es éste, el que al final termina de sellar los pasaportes. En este sentido, atendiendo a esta victoria ante Turquía, la Argentina se metió en la competencia. Le quedan dos partidos en la instancia regular, ante Polonia y Bulgaria, y ningún equipo podrá superarla. Le alcanza solamente con presentarse.
Lo que necesitaba
La selección argentina venció este sábado a Turquía en Liubliana, Eslovenia, y virtualmente selló su ticket de clasificada a París 2024. Con ese resultado, se mantiene en el octavo lugar de la tabla de posiciones de la VNL con 15 puntos conseguidos en 10 partidos, producto de cinco victorias e igual cantidad de derrotas.
En el ranking internacional aparece en la misma posición con 298.75 unidades, lo que la mantiene por delante de Canadá (264.63 y ya clasificado) y Serbia (256.50), los otros aspirantes a la gran cita del año (el resto de los que lo preceden ya están clasificados).

Para el último weekend del campeonato Marcelo Méndez dispone de 15 jugadores: Luciano De Cecco, Matías Sánchez, Bruno Lima, Pablo Kukartsev, Agustín Loser, Nicolás Zerba, Martín Ramos, Joaquín Gallego, Luciano Vicentín, Luciano Palonsky, Facundo Conte, Ezequiel Palacios, Jan Martínez y Santiago Danani. Tras el triunfo ante Turquía, la albiceleste se enfrentará este viernes 21 a Polonia y, por último, este sábado 22 a Bulgaria. En lo que va de la competencia cosechó cinco victorias y la misma cantidad de derrotas. Siete equipos de los que participan en la VNL 2024 ya están adentro: el anfitrión, Alemania, Brasil, Estados Unidos, Japón, Polonia y Canadá. Todos los consiguieron por intermedio de los Preolímpicos.
