George R. R. Martin: "El final de Game of Thrones no fue fiel a mi obra: debió haber tenido 5 temporadas más"
MADRID (Europa Press).- Uno de los eventos televisivos de 2019 fue el final de Game of Thrones. La popular serie de HBO terminó en mayo último tras emitir su octava temporada. El Trono de Hierro encontró a su dueño tras una ardua lucha que comenzó en abril de 2011. George R. R. Martin, autor de la saga Canción de hielo y fuego, en la que basó la ficción, afirmó que la producción de la serie debía haber durado más, al menos trece temporadas, para poder ser lo más fiel a la compleja trama de sus libros. La serie se llevó hace pocas semanas el Emmy al mejor drama del año.
"Hay otros factores como el estudio o la cadena de TV y a veces su visión creativa y la tuya no coinciden y surgen las famosas diferencias creativas que provocan conflictos", declaró el autor de la saga a la revista Fast Company. "Te sientes raro cuando el estudio o el canal aparecen y aportan algo que no tiene que ver con la historia, pero lo ponen en plan: «Bueno, este personaje tiene un X de rating muy alto, así que vamos a darle más cosas para que haga en la serie»", explica.
Pero lo más duro vino después, cuando Martin reveló que el final de la serie no era lo que había concebido originalmente. "[El final de] la serie no ha sido completamente fiel. De lo contrario, tendría que haber tenido cinco temporadas más", zanja el escritor, que por estos días figura en la lista de los candidatos al Nobel de Literatura, que se conocerá mañana (tanto el de 2020 como el postergado de 2019), auque pagando un improbable 251 a 1 en las casas de apuestas.
Antes del final de la serie, había anticipado que el desenlace, muy críticado por la mayoría de los fans, se distanciaría de su historia. "¿Cómo va a terminar todo? Solo escucho a la gente preguntando eso", escribió el autor en su blog. "¿Será el mismo final que en la serie? ¿Será diferente? Bueno, sí y no. Estoy trabajando en un medio muy diferente al de David Benioff y D. B. Weiss, no lo olvidéis nunca. Había seis horas para esta última temporada, mientras que espero que mis dos últimos libros abarquen más de 3000 páginas; incluso si hace falta añadir más, lo haré", comentaba.
La eterna espera por el sexto libro
George R. R. Martin tiene pendiente de publicar los dos últimos tomos de la saga: Vientos de invierno y Un sueño de primavera. Los fans llevan mucho tiempo esperando la publicación del sexto volumen (Danza de dragones se publicó en 2011). Inicialmente se pensó que la novela saldría antes de que HBO emitiese la sexta temporada, para evitar que la serie sobrepasara a los libros en términos de la historia, pero al final no fue así.
Sin fecha de publicación a la vista,Martin ha estado ocupado coproduciendo dos spin-offs derivados de su universo, uno de los cuales será una precuela centrada en la casa Targaryen. Además, en noviembre de 2018 publicó Fuego y sangre, en la que narra la historia completa del clan al que pertenecen Daenerys y Jon Snow.
